Explore the roads of Georgia in one of our vintage Soviet Ladas and discover this wonderful Caucasian country at your own pace.

We have a range of vehicles available, including the 4×4 Niva and the classic Lada Zhiguli. These don’t have power steering and you may end up with arms like a Russian ship-builder after a week of navigating the twists and turns of Georgia’s roads. The seats are only modestly comfortable, the ‘acceleration’ is non-existent and plenty of people are going to wander why on earth you didn’t just hire a modern car. (Before we forget, we can of course provide you with a more modern car.)

But that isn’t really the point, is it? The Lada has been the workhorse of the the Russian-speaking world for decades and is slowly but surely becoming a dying breed. Here in Georgia too, it will largely disappear from the roads in the coming years. But we think travel should be fun, quirky and shun the ordinary or mundane wherever possible. And travelling by these old cars will be an experience you’ll remember for years to come. This isn’t just a means of getting from A to B but a journey in its own right. What better way to explore Georgia than in one of these delightfully evocative vehicles?

Each car is suitable for up to four persons and luggage.

We have several available, so if you’d like to travel as a group in several cars then that’s more than possible too.

The price quoted here is for a week’s hire. Please talk to us if you’d like to book a car for a different amount of time.

All aboard!

DEPARTURE/RETURN LOCATION Tbilisi International Airport
DEPARTURE TIME Any time that suits you
  • Rental of a Vintage Lada car, properly insured, prepared and maintained for your use.
  • Airport collection and drop-off for the car

We’ll drop your car(s) off at the airport for you and will collect them from there – or any other Tbilisi location – at the end of your trip. Please note that to hire a car we will need to see your proof of holding a valid driving licence.

Day 1: It’s all yours, see you on your return…

What will the weather be like?

This is going to depend on when you go. The  months between April-October are best for travelling by car here, but even in early June some high passes can still be snowbound. The Caucasus is a big mountain range, and the weather can be unpredictable. We also do a winter-sports tour by Lada, so check it out if you’d prefer to be here in winter

How much are flights?

This totally depends on season, but there are direct flights from across Europe to Tbilisi, and some from further afield. There are also now budget airlines flying to Georgia (mostly to the airport at Kutaisi, from where you’ll transfer to Tbilisi), so it is entirely possible to get a return ticket very cheaply if you shop around and don’t mind the time of day you’ll travel.

We can book your flights for you through our trade ATOL partners – please just ask us for details.

What will the food be like?

Amazing! Georgian food is a feast for the palate; a tasty array of (largely home-produced) meat and vegetarian dishes infused with the tastes of Persia, the Middle East and Europe.

Are the Cars Insured?

The cars are insured as per local law. Your own personal travel insurance should also cover you for driving a car in Georgia.
